Bagel boards are the perfect centerpiece to your next brunch, bridal shower, or Mother’s Day celebration. Serve up your bagel board with homemade flavored cream cheese for a show-stopping feast that is delicious and gorgeous.

Flavored cream cheese is a really easy and fun way to make the average bagel a little more exciting. You can tailor your flavors perfectly to the occasion, your guests’ preferences, or to use up what you have in the kitchen. My two favorite flavors for homemade cream cheese are scallion and honey pecan.

When serving bagels or a bagel board, it’s best to have one savory flavor and one sweet flavor to satisfy all tastes. Let’s start with the savory!

Scallion Cream Cheese

Scallion cream cheese is a delightful balance of creamy and sharp flavors. The bite from the scallion is great when paired with a savory bagel like sesame or onion. You could also take it one step further and add some chopped fresh herbs to the cream cheese for an even brighter bite. We’re keeping it simple today with just chopped scallions.

How to make Scallion Cream Cheese

  1. In the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or using a hand mixer), combine cream cheese, scallions, and salt.
  2. Turn the mixer to low and mix until all the ingredients are well combined and the cream cheese begins to get fluffy.
  3. Turn the mixer one speed faster and whip the cream cheese for a minute, then turn the mixer off.
  4. Transfer the cream cheese to a serving bowl and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, if time permits.

Honey Pecan Cream Cheese

Honey Pecan is easily one of the most requested cream cheese flavors when going with a sweeter flavor profile. I love to add a pinch of cinnamon to add a lovely warmth to my cream cheese. Honey Pecan cream cheese is also delicious as a dip for fruit, like apples or bananas.
